Gareth is Midland Group's latest recruit

Gareth Butterfield Gareth Butterfield is the newest recruit to the ranks of Midland Group of Motoring Writers members.

Gareth, who lives in Ashbourne in Derbyshire, is a motoring writer for Mirror.co.uk and its parent company Reach PLC's regional titles.

His recent Mirror.co.uk stories include reviews of the Skoda Enyaq iV Coupe and Peugeot 508SW, and advice on winter tyres.

"I feel like I should have joined the Midlands Group of Motoring Writers years ago," said Gareth. "Truthfully, I've only ever been dabbling with automotive journalism 'on the side', balancing it with a full-time job in regional news, and often taking on projects and commissions in my free time.

"My employer of 18 years has recently realised the value of having an experienced motoring writer on its books, and it has meant my focus is now predominantly on creating motoring-related content, which has given me the personal impetus to bite the bullet and become part of an official industry network.

"I hope this means I can finally capitalise on opportunities I've missed by not being able to attend many launches and events, and I'm looking forward to drawing some wisdom from other motoring writers who have built themselves successful careers doing what I've always considered to be the best job in the world."

"It is a pleasure to welcome Gareth to our ranks," said MGMW chairman Andrew Noakes. "He is an experienced motoring writer who, like many of our members, produces content for both regional and national audiences. I look forward to meeting up with Gareth at a Midland Group event very soon."
