Ian Donaldson 1947-2022
The Midland Group of Motoring Writers is sad to announce that its president and former chairman Ian Donaldson died on Saturday at the age of 75.
Ian was undergoing treatment for cancer but was still working until recently. After feeling ill late last week he was taken to hospital, and he passed away in the early hours of Saturday 29 October.
The Group sends its condolences to Ian’s wife Jean, his family and the many motoring writers and motor industry professionals who will mourn his passing.
Ian’s career in journalism began on a local paper in Cambridgeshire, and he became a full time motoring editor in 1995. He was chairman of the Midland Group for 25 years, only stepping down earlier this year when his health started to fail him.
Ian was always ready with a humorous story to tell and many of us will remember him for his good humour. But he was also a meticulous and conscientious journalist, widely respected across the industry throughout his long career.
Friends and colleagues are encouraged to send recollections, tributes and pictures to IanD@mgmw.org.uk for publication in Ian’s memory.
