MGMW launches 2017 young writer award

Would you like to kickstart a career as a motoring writer?

The Midland Group of Motoring Writers has announced details of the 2017 Phil awards for budding motoring journalists. If you’re aged between 12 and 18 and love writing or talking about cars, it’s your chance to make a name for yourself with leading UK car journalists and win some great prizes.

The Phil award (for all entrants, aged between 12 and 18) includes £1000 in travel vouchers and the loan of an Audi of your choice for your parents for a week; plus a tour of the Aston Martin plant at Gaydon, Warwickshire and a passenger ride with one of the company's test drivers.

The Junior Phil award (for entrants up-to 16) is a visit to Mercedes-Benz World at Brooklands, Surrey for a tutored drive and lunch for yourself and your parents. If you’re aged up to 16 and good enough, you could win the lot.

Entrants will need to tell a story about cars and travel which entertains the judges. They’ll be looking for creativity and the ability to use the chosen medium to best effect.

The topic for the story is ‘my perfect car and the journey I’d take in it’ and entries can be in any journalistic format, including electronic media. The closing date for entries is February 28, 2017.
