Nick's life of crime

Midland Group member Nick Fletcher manages to find time in a busy life between road tests and looking after rescue dogs to pen books with a distinctly criminal edge writes Ian Donaldson.

His latest work, Dark Edges, was published late last year and is a collection of five crime novellas all set in Devon and Cornwall. They feature ex-journalist turned private eye Max Slater, who has appeared in several previous novels and short story collections.

And Nick says there's even a "tenuous motoring angle!" In previous stories Max mainly drove BMWs but he now drives a Range Rover Evoque. Other vehicles playing a part in the various plots include a Mercedes SL, Mazda MX-5, Audi TT and even a Fiat campervan.

He said: "Dark Edges is my tenth book and I am already working on the eleventh, this one about some of the more extraordinary real-life murders which have taken place along the south coast of England. The research involves visiting several murder scenes, a graveyard and even looking out for a ghost!"

Nick is not the only MGMW member to have turned his hand to fiction writing. Russ Brown's debut novel Miss Chisum was published in 2019.
