Founding member Bob goes social

Bob Maddox

ONE of the founding members of the Midland Group of Motoring Writers, Bob Maddox is moving from full membership to our social section.

Bob, who lives in Matlock with wife Pauline, says: “Giving up full membership has not been easy after being a founder member of the Group but I’ve had a good innings, firstly simply editing the motoring pages in the Derby Evening Telegraph since 1972 and then contributing to them from 1980 before supplying copy to several publications in the former Northcliffe Newspapers Group."

Bob adds: “Now it’s time to devote more hours to my growing family and interests.”

The Midland Group was the result of an informal meeting held at the National Motorcycle Museum near Solihull and the first committee included two delightfully titled ‘members without portfolio’, one of whom was Bob Maddox.

MGMW chairman Ian Donaldson said: “Over the years Bob has been a loyal and helpful member of the Group and I thank him for all the thoughtful suggestions he has made to keep us up to date and relevant.

“I note from his entry in the current handbook that Bob numbers among his interests music, walking, geology and travel. So he’s not going to be short of things to do as he winds down the motoring writing.

“It will be good to see him at the social events we hope to hold in 2022, hopefully with the current pandemic a receding sight in the rear view mirror.”
