Two young writers collect Phil awards
Two budding young motoring writers have been named winners of the 2016 Phil awards and have collected their prizes from MGMW Chairman, Ian Donaldson. This year’s Phil has gone to 17-year old Michael Lear from Bidford upon Avon (right), while the Junior Phil has gone to 13-year old Alfie Roach, who lives in Shrewsbury.
The two writers faced stiff competition for the awards which, for the first time, were split into age categories to encourage more younger entrants.
“It was really encouraging to meet our deserving winners and share their enthusiasm about a possible future career in motoring journalism,” said Ian. “They were both so committed and keen to learn; Phil Lewellin would have been proud.
“I’d also like to thank our generous award sponsors, Audi, Mercedes-Benz and Aston Martin, for their continued support of this great award.”
Phil award winner, Michael Lear, will be enjoying £1000 in travel vouchers (courtesy of Audi UK), the loan of an Audi of his choice for his parents for a week and a tour of the Aston Martin plant at Gaydon, Warwickshire with a passenger ride alongside one of the company's test drivers.
Meanwhile, Junior Phil winner, Alfie Roach (right), wins a visit to Mercedes-Benz World at Brooklands, Surrey for a tutored drive with lunch for himself and his parents.
